Cover Reveal: The Iron Traitor by Julie Kagawa

Earlier today Hollywood Crush of MTV.com announced the official cover reveal of book two in the Call of the Forgotten series (and book six of the Iron Fey series).

After reading The Iron Fey series last year, Julie Kagawa quickly became one of my favourite authors (I also love her vampire dystopian series, Blood of Eden, which I highly recommend. You might think you're done with dystopians and with vampires, but you won't be once you start The Immortal Rules!).
When The Iron Fey series 'ended' with Iron Knight, I, along with many other members of the Iron Army (the self-dubbed fandom name of readers of the Iron Fey series), didn't want it to end.

And the Iron Army was luckily and happily resurrected when Julie Kagawa announced that she would be continuing the series with new books featuring Meghan Chase's younger brother, Ethan Chase.

The first book, The Lost Prince, of the new series, Call of the Forgotten, was released fall of last year. It was, in my strong opinion, amazing, and I, along with the rest of the Iron Army, am anxiously awaiting the second book, The Iron Traitor (originally called The Traitor Son).

There is not yet a description released for The Iron Traitor, but you can see the cover in all of its gorgeousness (and sexiness!) by visiting hollywoodcrush.mtv.com's exclusive cover reveal post here.

Go on. This post will be waiting when you get back...

...

...

...

WAS IT NOT THE MOST GORGEOUS THING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN?
Was anyone else expecting to see Ethan and not Keirran?
I for one and super stoked that they chose to go with Keirran on the cover, even though the books are not told from his perspective. I am jumping-up-and-down-in-my-chair excited to read this book (and also terrified - traitor son/iron traitor? Julie Kagawa, what do you have in store for us??)

The Iron Traitor comes out in November 2013, so there is still a few months' wait. Why not check out Julie Kagawa's other series, Blood of Eden, while you're waiting? (If you haven't already) The Immortal Rules is already out and the second book, The Eternity Cure, will be out May 1st. Check out my review of The Immortal Rules here. And look out in the near future for a review of Eternity Cure. I'm more than halfway through and it is great!

So what do you guys think of the reveal?
And hmm... What do you think?
Ethan? or Keirran?

The Iron Traitor cover looks a lot more similar to the original Iron Fey series covers, don't you think? Lost Prince's is too, of course, but the placement of the title reminds me a lot more of the Iron Fey series. I like it.

Cover Judging #2 + Cover Reveal: Blood of Eden series by Julie Kagawa

The publishers of the Blood of Eden series have designed new covers for Julie Kagawa's vampiric dystopian series, Blood of Eden. The new covers looks great, and I am excited for them, but I do understand why some fans of the series are concerned about the new cover designs. However, I have a few points that should soothe your hesitation, Kagawa fans.

(The first edition The Immortal Rules cover)

Like with Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me trilogy, Blood of Eden is going to have new cover designs, presumably so the series can have covers that flow. Both YA series had standard covers featuring the main character (See my post on the new Shatter Me trilogy cover reveal here), and I believe that having a cover that features more of a design than a face will appeal to readers. Current fans already love the series, and a cover that could appeal to everyone would only benefit the series. I don't want to get into a super deep analysis of what type of covers attract what groups of people, so I won't say much else about that.
Plus there isn't much you can do with a character's face at the cover, unless you change up the characters featured on the cover, or if you do what the Delirium trilogy did with their covers (which I personally am not a fan of, because it was just different angles of Lena's face with a different colour featured on each colour. It did not feel as creative as it could have been, but hey).

Cover changes happen, and usually it is for the better, even if not everyone is a fan (and it's impossible to please everyone, so) of the changes.

And honestly, I had a feeling the covers would change. I personally love the new covers. They're fun to look at, and even though this means I'm going to have to buy another copy of The Immortal Rules so my covers will match, I can live with that.

So what are your thoughts on the new covers? Let's discuss in the comments!

Cover Reveal: Swell by Julie Duck

So I am very excited to be participating in this cover reveal for Julie Duck's Swell. I do not regularily read contemporary fiction, but after reading this book's synopsis, I'm looking forward to making an exception! It certainly sounds to be an interesting read, and the cover... Well it's quite pretty ;)

Here is the blurb:

For 15-year-old Beck Ionesco, discovering love with the most popular guy in school is a surprise. So are the bottles and cans he hides in his room and under the car seat. Through Christian, Beck enters a world where you can never be too cool or drunk, and finds herself falling for him, the bottle… and Christian’s dangerous friend Hillman falling for her.Thank God for that bottle, though, because it’s all Beck has left when Christian abandons her, Hillman begins stalking her, and she finds herself on the wrong end of popularity in the back seat of his car. She’s left to fend for herself and her heart until she finds friendship – and possibly more - with fellow student Jesse. But Christian wants another chance with Beck, and collides with a drunken fate that becomes his last call. It’s now up to Beck to clean up and reclaim her life, and discover sober love with the one whose life secretly parallels her own.

Cover Reveal: Clockwork Princess

FINALLY something to tide us over until March 2013, when the final Infernal Devices book is set to be released. After over 30 000 tweets containing the hashtag #ClockworkPrincess, shadowhunters.com revealed the Clockwork Princess cover.

Is it not gorgeous? *stares*
I cannot decide what I love more: the glowing book or Tessa's dress. *stares some more*

The tweet count on the cover reveal page is still rising, and I doubt it will stop anytime soon. You can view the page here, and even grab the Clockwork Princess Countdown widget to put on your site.

It pains me to think that I still have to wait so many months to read the final book in The Infernal Devices. I posted a review (my second on this blog!) on Clockwork Prince, which you can view here. As you can tell by the informal but necessary caps used towards the end of that review, Clockwork Prince got me VERY excited, and I am literally bouncing with excitement for Clockwork Princess.

So what do you guys think of the cover?
I'm glad we finally get to see Tessa!
I don't think that dress would have been appropriate time-wise, but hey, what do I know? I haven't done any research and I don't really care because that dress is hot and I want one.
But anyway, leave your comments about the cover and discuss how EXCITED you are (or not) over Clockwork Princess in the comment section below.
:D

Cover Reveal: Requiem

The final book in the Delirium trilogy by Lauren Oliver, Requiem, is due out in March of 2013.
The cover for Requiem has been revealed. Let's stare at it and admire its beauty for a moment, shall we?

I must say I'm a little disappointed. It looks gorgeous, but in my opinion it's far too similar to the cover of Pandemonium.
Let's take a look at the difference in colour scheme between Delirium and Pandemonium:

These two are pretty different with Delirium featuring cool colour tones and Pandemonium featuring warm colour tones. But then Requiem also features warm colour tones, which makes it look far too similar to Requiem.

It should not matter, but it does bother me slightly. At a closer look, there are obvious differences in the detail, such as the flowers. But I don't know... A flower and a few shades of difference in colour don't really do it for me. When I looked at the Requiem cover for the first time, I felt like I was already very familiar with it.

Still, it is gorgeous, and I am super excited to find out what happens in the final book! Pandemonium was my very first review here on this blog, so I cannot wait to get my hands on Requiem. March could not come sooner! (Especially since I would LOVE to skip the cold winter weather, haha).

What are your thoughts on the Requiem cover? Love it? Or do you have reservations like I do?
And I'm curious: do covers matter? How much of an influence do covers have on you when you're checking out a new book/series to read?
I'll admit, if a cover looks too juvenile or too generic, I might not feel any inclination to read the synopsis. Bad, I know. But sometimes visuals really help. That's what the cover is there for, right? To capture our attention.
Leave your thoughts in the comments :)

Cover Reveal: Iron's Prophecy

I was a little late to the party when it came to reading Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series. I picked up the books soon after the fourth in the series, Iron Knight, was released, but I quickly fell in love with them and they now remain one of my favourite fantasy series. When I found out that Julie Kagawa was writing a series featuring Meghan Chase's younger brother Ethan, I was (and still am) ecstatic. The first book in that series comes out later this year, around the same time that book 4.5 in the Iron Fey series is released, Iron's Prophecy:

And that up there is the beautiful cover for the novella, which I'm sure will satisfy a lot of Iron Fey fans. The plot blurb that was also released, which you can read here on Goodreads, is the final novella revolving around Meghan Chase's life, and will give us a glimpse into her life as the Iron Queen. There is even  mention in the blurb about Meghan carrying her and Ash's son, which is super exciting!

Looking at the previous Iron Fey covers, I've noticed that Iron's Prophecy is a slightly different style. It's a lot darker in colour compared to the other books. The following are the two other Iron Fey novellas' covers:

The cover for Iron's Prophecy reflects the style of the cover for the first book in Ethan Chase's series:

At least in my eyes, anyways. Perhaps because it's the final novella of Meghan Chase's time? Or maybe it's just random and I'm looking for deeper meaning in a book cover than was intended. Oh, no, what have my English teachers done to me? Haha.

So what are your thoughts?
What do you think of the Iron's Prophecy cover? Excited to read it? Have you read all of the novellas and if so, do you think they add to the story, or that the series would be fine if they didn't exist?

Personally, they're more than just fluff stories to me. In fact, they aren't fluff at all. In the full-length novels there are hints as to what happened in the novellas, and I found it enlightening to read the novellas. It definitely adds something.

Also, how excited are you for Ethan's series? I'm a little excited.................. *bounces around ecstatically*

Cover Reveal: Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

I fell in love with Shatter Me after reading towards the end of 2011. I won't get too much into it, as I still need to do a Shatter Me review post (after I re-read, however). So I was super excited to see the cover for the second book in the series, Unravel Me.

Look at this beauty (or rather, these beauties, as the new Shatter Me cover was also revealed not long ago)!
Edit: Cover of Destroy Me, book 1.5 in the series, has been added below after being revealed on 6.22.12

I cannot get over how beautiful these covers are. Seriously, I cannot stop staring.
My favourite part of the new covers is how they link together. Shatter Me's cover shows branches for the eye's lashes, except for the one corner of the eye which is turning icy. This brings us to Unravel Me's cover, which has icy lashes, but the corner of the eye this time is watery. I'm wondering if the third book will follow this pattern, and if the lashes there will be water? We have a long wait to find out!

Until then, we get to see the cover for Shatter Me book 1.5, Destroy Me, which Tahereh Mafi will be revealing later today (June 22nd, 2012). I, for one, am super excited about that! I want to get to know our antagonist of Shatter Me. He certainly has be intrigued. And goodreads says the e-book contains 150 pages of Warner goodness, so I could not be more stoked!

So what do you guys thing?
Do you like the Unravel Me cover? Which cover do you prefer? The old Shatter Me cover? Or do you like the new design?

And if you haven't read Shatter Me yet, what are you doing? Get on over to the bookstore and pick yourself up a copy! I can't say for sure when I'll have a review up, but by the time Destroy Me is out, I promise you I shall! For now, click here to be taken to the goodreads.com description of Shatter Me.

*goes back to staring at these beautiful covers*
